A Totally Great and Awesome Movie That Was Worth Seeing!

While some critics have likened Easy A to a generic rehash of Mean Girls, slagging the movie for its unoriginality and lifeless script, they are obviously in the minority. Emma Stone steps up to A list material with an outstanding performance that demonstrates why some people should be let loose to critic movies. What I’m trying to say is that for a teen, high school movie, comedy and social commentary are far beyond the trailer emphasizing how easy it is to believe in the age of modern technology where everyones thoughts are published minutely on Facebook. This is a must see movie because its not just a comment on generation y and high school but it highlights the effects that lying can have even when its done with the best intentions.

And that’s why the A stands for Awesome!

I believe them, but they’re hiding something!!!

Now besides being utterly predictable week in and week out, another show that I love is “Lie To Me”. Now while each week the same process happens – similar to CSI and House- the science behind the show really interests me and keeps me coming back. Well, that and the House like figure that is Cal Lightman who antagonizes staff and clients at the Lightman institute, where their purpose is to read people’s faces and body language to find the truth. Cal is played superbly and draws the viewer in with his often blasé attitude to authority and his love for his daughter.  A great show to watch for those who enjoy a bit of workplace banter and crime solving. Not a good watch if you want characters to use different methods each time.

“Lie To Me”  airs on Wednesdays at 8:30pm

Based on… but very loosely based on!!!

Another family tv show that I have returned to is the second season of “Legend of the Seeker” that is currently airing on Fox8 Sunday nights. I fell in love with season one when I was re-reading the “Sword of Truth” series by Terry Goodkind and found myself looking for fan theories of who would play who if they made it into a movie. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was already a tv series!! Now the show says that it is loosely based on the books, however a large amount of creative freedom has been utilized by director Sam Raimi, (director of Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess) that has created new plots and changes others to suit tv while still keeping the underlying themes of love and good versus evil apparent. I must say however, the cast which includes Aussie Craig Horner creates the atmosphere of the books perfectly. A must see series, although it requires you to see it as separate from the books. So enjoy it as a book, then enjoy it as a show. Or vice versa. But mostly, Enjoy It!!!

The joys of fast forwarding!!

Now since I have been quiet on the movie front for a while I thought I would write about  a tv show or three that I really enjoy. Maybe because they are the only shows I get time to watch. Maybe it’s the company I have when I watch these shows. Either way the first show I am really enjoying at the moment is “Parenthood” from producer Ron Howard. This show provides a humorous commentary on life in a family, especially life with kids. Now it could be the fact the it is a re-emergence of Lorelei Gilmore actress Lauren Graham, but the cast connects in a way that seemingly only a completely dysfunctional and happy family can.

I find that it has become a great add to my viewing list that sits in my Foxtel IQ recordings, just waiting for a chance to sit down for more than five minutes.

“Parenthood” airs at 9:30pm on Tuesdays
